Kirtland continued its dominance with a commanding 41-7 victory over Northmor in the Division VI state semifinal, securing its place in the state championship for the 13th time in the last 14 seasons. The Hornets improved their record to a perfect 15-0 and will compete in their eighth consecutive state title game.
Junior quarterback Jake LaVerde led the ground attack with 146 yards and three touchdowns on 16 carries. Kirtland’s offense operated with precision on the ground, amassing 465 rushing yards on 59 carries, averaging an impressive 7.9 yards per attempt. They did not attempt a pass throughout the game, a testament to their powerful run game and disciplined offensive execution.
Running back Danny Alfieri had a standout performance, contributing 149 yards and two touchdowns on 25 touches. Senior Jack Lessick played a pivotal two-way role, intercepting a pass on defense and adding a rushing touchdown. Although another of Lessick’s touchdowns was negated due to a holding penalty, his contributions were critical to the team’s success.
Kirtland’s defense held Northmor in check, limiting scoring opportunities and forcing key turnovers. With this win, the Hornets advance to the state final, aiming to continue their legacy of success and bring home another championship title.
